These days, who needs to earn self-confidence when you can buy it?
As breast implants are a pretty expensive option for the hopeful preteen, Abercrombie Kids, the miniature version of the wildly popular, hyper-sexualized former sporting goods retailer, has fulfilled every child's dream -- and every parent's nightmare -- with the padded push-up bikini top.
There was once a time, long ago, when little girls wished for their periods and a full cup size, which were the most significant symbols of bona-fide womanhood. Now, it seems, dreams of womanhood have been replaced with fantasies of growing a set big enough to score a Maxim cover and a spot on coveted quality television programming like 'Girls Gone Wild.'
It wasn't always this way. Then, again, the only thing a young girl was guaranteed to look forward to back then was a husband, dog and 2.5 children -- white picket fence optional. Yet somehow women's liberation and independence came with a crazy price, some sort of ass-backward package deal involving the right to vote at the cost of determining one's self worth based on T&A. We want to be on par with our Y-chromosomed counterparts, yet we're also quick to remind them, in the indomitable words of Destiny's Child's 'Bootylicious,' that they're not "ready for this jelly."
While we encourage young girls to keep their legs closed, apparently that doesn't mean they can't give their fellow prepubescent boys something to look forward to.
In high school, this makes sense: A teenage girl is young enough to receive positive guidance from respected elders, yet old enough to handle some decisions about sex, love and everything in between. What is a prom dress without bust-enhancing chicken cutlets? I, for one, have never been opposed to glorifying one's short-lived, cellulite-free existence with a miniskirt, but my mother certainly was.

Perhaps the fact that we no longer procreate for utility has a lot to do with the over-glamorization of today's youth -- having children was once essential for keeping a family's home and finances in order; today, kids are one of America's hottest accessory. And what better way to show off your new
Long gone are the days of wishing for B-cups over birthday candles, and obsessing over how one must, must, must increase one's bust. Today, even the littles have the option of sexing up and showing out. If only their target audience knew what a hard-on was.

That's your only concern, that they "don't have anything up there"? Some people don't have any moral compass. Do you mean that if a little kid happens to develop early, it would be perfectly fine for her mother to buy her those things and for her to wear them?
Best take another look at yourself, lady.

The pedophiles that created it are going to enjoy it as much as the pedophiles that see it on a kid.
It's all about desensitizing people slowly over time.
Remember when a womans bathing suit covered up just about everything?
Then little by little they got skimpier and skimpier.
Now that an adult bathing suit is little more than a cork and 2 band-aids the pedophiles are starting on kids bathing suits.
If America buys and supports it we're in worse shape than I thought.

If more black are starting to wear this brand...then the white kids that still don't listen to rap and don't think it's cute to emulate being ghetto are going to be real upset about this one.
And Darnell eason...Blake was being real...Ambercrombie is mostly worn and geared toward whites...take a look at their website...they have received a lot of criticism in the past for only hiring white models for their line.

I don't get this . . . at all. If Ambercrombie is this desperate for market share, this is a sad moment indeed. Let's see if I understand this . . .
A person can go to prison, for many years in some cases, for having photos of kids that are sexually explicit, but meanwhile, the corporate crime cabal can push obviously sexually "enhanced" bikinis and such to 6, 8, 10 year olds???
This is just plain bizarre, beyond belief.
What am I missing here . . . please, someone tell me, what am I missing here?

You are not missing anything there is a thing such as double standards and this is one of those double standards. It is a shame even to show this on tv and think it is okay. YES our children need their parents to beaware of what is going on and that their girls are the focal point. Let your girls be girls they will grow into their bodies soon enough and to wear something to get some boy off ooooooohhhhhhhhhh it is not worth it. Well like Britney Spears once said she is not that innocent well my girls are taht innocent and I plan to keep them that way...

Does it really matter the race? No these are children that they are making the push-ups for, like children in this country don't growup fast enough already. I have two daughters of my own and there is no way in hell I would allow them to wear anything like that.

I have read the comments that listed before mine and I find it interesting to see that they are mostly about the color of the skin. Well I thought that we were talking about the innocense of our preteen girls. My take on this is what I decide what I will let my girls wear and this new craze will not be it. My girls are courious just as the next kid but the key factor in all of this is my girls will not wear them becasue momma is not going to let them wear them. I love them too much to let them raise themselves or make decisons about their bodies with such materials as this new line of dress. I tawught them the importance of body image and that one thing leads to another. I don't want to see them ruining their lives showing themselve to some fresh little boy or some nasty man lurking around the kids pool parties trying to see who he will attack. I make the decisons what they should wear and what is appropriate more so ZI have instilled values that I hope will last as lifetime. Don't get into the hype it is for money gain only and not lining my pockets but the people who made the bikini's. As a parent keep your girls, girls for as long as you can for they will always be women and you want to make sure you raise confident women to the point where they will make the tough decision to not be like the rest of the world. Think highly of yourselves and not let the world decide for you what your image will be. Think before you act rais your girls the right way. I am not my childrens friend and never will be, I am momma in my house and what momma says is what goes. My money will not go for the trash but for wht is looks nice on them and they will have part of a decision in that. Be blessed

Unfortunately, this isn't a new phenomenon. I recall going into Wal Mart about two years ago with a friend when she was looking for a training bra for her daughter and they had padded bras (satin) and boyshorts and bikini underwear for young girls. We were both thinking "what happened to the flat triangles they ahd when we were kids?" So, we can't place blame on just them. BTW, where I live I have been seeing black kids wearing Ambercrombie and Arepostle (sp?) for years now. To me, it is the same as GAP. But I digress.
The thing is, desginers have been sexualizing tweens for years. I will say it all started with the shorts and sweats with the words across the behind. It has been all downhill since.

Yesterday Abercrombie removed the phrase "Push-Up" from the bikini top and the lowered the cost. However, the only way to let Abercrombie and Finch know how we truly feel is to either not purchase this crap, which is best but what is better is to not purchase this crap and file a complaint with their customer service.
They've contact info on their site and a box for concerns. Blogging about this bull is just a small step in solving a big problem. Abercrombie needs to take the padding out of the tops not just change the name and lower the price.
