What I Love Most About My Hair

Whether they're rocking their signature style or starting trends with a bold new color, these lovely ladies' fresh hairstyles keep them front and center. Rihanna, Keri Hilson, Shontelle and Cynthia Bailey all shared what they love most about their hair.

SHONTELLE
It takes a lot more than just a great voice to survive in the music business nowadays, and singer Shontelle has nailed it. The R&B songstress, who frequently rocks her locks long and sleek, shared what she loves most about her hair. Her fave rave? It's speed! "I love that It grows really fast so I don't have to worry about cutting it or experimenting gone awry," says Shontelle.

While many celebs travel with a glam squad to keep their hair tight, Shontelle keeps things low maintenance when on the road. "If it were up to me, I would probably always look like I just went surfing or swimming," says the Bajan beauty, "but in front the camera and on stage, it has to be all pretty and sleek and well done, so it is a real challenge for me on the road. I rock ponytails, natural waves or bone-straight styles a lot for this reason."

While many women tend to stick with one look that works best for them, Shontelle isn't afraid of switching it up every once in a while. "My hair has been long, short, wavy, light brown, almost blond, jet black -- you name it, I've probably tried it," she say. "Braids, weaves, wigs of all kinds. Fringes, bangs, shags, layers, no layers. Highlights, lowlights, all kinds of colors."

Even with a range of styles under her belt, her signature is a sleek pony. "A high ponytail makes me feel like I'm about to hit the catwalk or hop into a spandex suit and save a city!"

To get Shontelle's style, try some of her go-to products like: Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Nourishing Sheen Spray ($4.79, Target Stores), Bed Head Styling Superficial Smoothing Liquid for Shiny and Silky Hair ($24.50, drugstore.com), or Bumble and Bumble Styling Creme ($24, bumbleandbumble.com).

RIHANNA
We would be completely remiss to not mention Rihanna. The risk taker has some of the most requested cuts and colors in the country, and she definitely knows how to make a statement with her hair. Both Rihanna and the mastermind behind many of her looks, stylist Ursula Stephens, shared the thought process behind the bold choices. "I get bored easily, and I like that I can express myself through my style. Whatever mood I feel, I show through my hair styles," says the singer.

Coming up with the daring styles is oftentimes a collaborative effort. "Many times I come to Rihanna with a style or what I would like to do, and sometimes she has an idea, and we figure it out together! We are both creative people so it works well together," says Stephens. "We have a list of hair styles we want to do. It never ends - it's crazy!"

Want to repeat Rihanna's berry red hue at home? Try SoftSheen-Carson Hi Rez in Ruby Quake, ($9.99, walgreens.com).

CYNTHIA BAILEY
To keep herself from getting bored, model and 'Real Housewife of Atlanta' Cynthia Bailey changes up her naturally short 'do regularly. "I love that I can go from a cute, spiky look to a sleek, sexy finger-waved look in the same amount of time that it takes me to take a shower," she says. "Fifteen minutes, and I'm out the door."

When she feels like something completely different, Bailey mixes in a few fun additions. "I switch up hairstyles often because I can only do but so many looks with my natural short hair. I love incorporating wigs, weaves, clip-ons, and hair pieces."

If she's short on time or not near a stylist, Cynthia straightens her own tresses with a Gail Hudson Ceramic Silk Iron ($150, gailhudson.com) and keeps things sleek with Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey pomade ($10.50, carolsdaughter.com)

KERI HILSON
In recent months, singer Keri Hilson has shown us that one signature style is just not her thing. She's gone from dark to light, straight to curly, and has picked up a few tricks from her stylists along the way. "I turn to reliable products. My stylists have taught me a number of things regarding hair care, so I've learned to use moisturizing and protein-infused conditioners on a daily basis," says Hilson. Of her many styles, one favorite is a classic bob. "I try to keep it very low maintenance but still relaxed," she says.
