Eyelash Extensions: Worth the Expense?

With the luscious lashes of stars like Keri Hilson and Rihanna on every red carpet and magazine, women all over the country are lusting after that glamorous Hollywood look, and the latest trend shows that applying every day false lashes is no longer enough. These days, a procedure to get lash extensions seems to be what it takes to get the look.

Long-term extensions typically last for about two months, and professional technicians apply single strands of synthetic lashes to give you a natural, long-lashed look. But with a procedure that takes on average one to two hours and can cost anywhere from $200 to $1,000, is it worth it?

Eyelash guru to the stars Ja'Maal Buster told Black Voices that with the proper professional application, long-term eyelash extensions are definitely worth it.

But Buster says make sure you do your research before undergoing the procedure.

"Women really need to evaluate their lifestyle, because eyelash extensions are very high maintenance. You need an artist with a good reputation who will really explain to you the pros and cons."

In addition to the high price tag and having to have the extensions reapplied every 6-8 weeks, there is another risk: if not applied properly, extensions can cause you to lose your natural lashes. So it's possible for you to add a little Hollywood glam to your life, but remember: it may come at a high price!
