The first lady was spotted during the Fourth of July weekend with bright blue toes peeking out of her flats. A couple of weeks ago, she was shaking hands with military families at Camp Pendleton, north of San Diego, when she stopped to compliment the hands of a young fan wearing blue polish. "I know the name of that fingernail polish!" Mrs. Obama said to the 8-year-old.
It isn't just blues that the first lady is enamored with. On her vacation in Bar Harbor, Maine, she showed off her bright green pedicure. Obama has shown us that you do not have to sacrifice edgy nails colors because you're a certain age or your husband is, ahem, the president.
Here are a few colors that we think presidential and non-presidential toes alike would look good wearing.
During her most recent foot sighting, Mrs. Obama was sporting a bright green polish. We think it looks like Essie Pretty Edgy ($8, essieshop.com).
Essie Lapis of Luxury ($8, essieshop.com) is a dead ringer for the color she wore Fourth of July.
Oh, and the color that Mrs. Obama recognized on the little girl's fingers? It was What's With the Catitude ($5, amazon.com) from OPI's Shrek Forever After collection.
