1) Protect yourself from the sun. Most people think protecting themselves from the sun just means applying sunscreen, but the sun can be damaging to many other parts of your body besides your skin. In the summer months, your hair products (to protect your hair from breakage and drying out), lip balm (sunburned lips? ouch!) and even nail top coats (to avoid yellowing) should all also have an SPF or ingredient to protect against sun damage.
2) Recognize changes in skin tone. In the summer, no matter how much sunblock you apply, it's likely that your skin tone will be a few shades darker than it is in the fall or winter. But if you don't have the cash to buy new foundation for each season, the summer solution is simple–you can mix your foundation or face powder with bronzer for a lighter, more summery look, or you can go a little more natural by just wearing bronzer on the places the sun will highlight your face–your cheeks, nose, forehead and chin.
3) Moisturize. You might think that in the summer you don't need to moisturize because your skin doesn't feel as dry as it does in the winter, but you want to keep your skin healthy all year around–plus, don't you want those legs to look super smooth in the new shorts you just bought? Also, don't forget about your hair! Heat, humidity and sun can be very harmful to your hair, so make sure to use moisturizing products, like moisturizing shampoos and leave-in conditioners.
4) Brighten up. When you think summer, you think bright colors, and that should be reflected in your beauty products. Summer is the perfect time to be bold and try that teal eyeshadow, bright rose pink blush, or that yellow polish you've been eyeing for awhile.
5) Add a little shimmer. While throughout the rest of the year shimmer is probably best left for a night on the town, during the summer, a little bit of shimmer looks great. Don't be afraid to add a little sparkle by choosing a bronzer, blush or lip gloss with subtle shimmer to brighten up your summer days.
