Beauty Products for Traveling: A Guide

Comments (6)

When we see those pictures of Rihanna coming off of a plane looking relaxed and flawless, we all wonder "how does she do it?" The rest of us mere mortals usually find it hard to keep our beauty regimen (and ourselves) together while traveling and dealing with the heat. But just in time for your Memorial Day travels, BV's giving you some affordable beauty basics every traveling gal should have this summer.

- A Train Case: Start off with something stylish but practical to carry all of your products in. Sonia Kashuk has a great line of train cases, like this Black and White dotted case ($21.99, target.com) that has multiple plastic compartments that zip to avoid leaking.

- Cleansing Wipes: You always, but especially while traveling and encountering the germs on a plane, train or bus, want to avoid wiping your face with your hands when you get hot or sweaty. Cleansing wipes are great because they remove makeup, fight acne, and give your face a quick, rejuvenating cleanse in a pinch. Neutrogena's Deep Clean Oil-Free Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes ($6, cvs.com) will do the trick.

- Moisturizer w/ SPF: No matter what climate your in, protecting your skin from the sun is really important–especially if your travels are taking you to an exotic locale. While you want to apply a little bit of regular sunscreen to your face, you can avoid clogged pores by applying a lighter moisturizer with SPF as a base first. Clean & Clear's Oil-Free Oxygenating Moisturizer with SPF 15 ($4, drugstores) is a great travel item that will both moisturize and protect you from harmful rays.

- Chapstick w/ SPF: Just like the rest of your face, your lips need protection from the sun, too, and the last thing you want in the middle of your getaway is chapped, sunburned lips. You can find the generic Chapstick Moisturizer w/ SPF 15 ($1.99, drugstore.com) at almost any drugstore near you, and you'll want to make sure to apply a bit before you put on that lip gloss or balm for a day out.

- Leave in Conditioner: During the summer months, you might wash your hair more often than normal because of sweat or trips to the beach or pool. You'll want to make sure you have a leave-in conditioner to apply continually to avoid your hair drying out. We like Carol's Daughter's Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioner ($12, sephora.com) to keep hair moisturized.

- Top Coat: When your out in the sun, your manicure will fade more quickly than normal, which can also result in yellow nails. Make sure to apply a top coat a few times throughout your trip to keep your manicure from chipping and to protect your polish and nail bed from the sun's rays. Essie's Non-Yellowing Top Coat ($8, essie.com) is a good one to keep your manicure in place.

- Water: Make sure to stock up on the water bottles for your trip! Drinking lots of water will not only keep you hydrated, but your skin, too!
