Usher Debuts New VIP Fragrance Commercial: Did He Copy Diddy?

Comments (27)

R&B singer Usher has a new bachelor life and a new chart-topping single. Plus, he's capping off his year of successes with a flamboyant new ad campaign for his fragrance, V.I.P., which hit stores this fall ($25-$65, Macys.com). In the commercial for the spicy fragrance, a tuxedo-clad Usher and a lady friend are being chased through the streets of Monte Carlo by paparazzi. Something about the clothes, the French Riviera setting and the James Bond-ish theme calls to mind the ad campaign of another music industry titan with a flair for fragrance.

Has Usher gleaned some cologne inspiration from his one-time music mentor Sean "Diddy" Combs? Watch Usher's commercial below, and then check out Diddy's I Am King fragrance "mini-movie," which debuted around this time last year, and you be the judge!

Do they compare? Usher has some stiff competition -- Mr. Combs has been selling out his women's and men's fragrance products on HSN lately.
