Shield Your Face: Give Dry Patches the Boot!

Cold, dry weather can take a toll on the delicate skin on your face. If you keep using your usual summer products you may end up with dry patches and flaky skin. Keep your skin soft and supple this winter with these tips:

1. Go Creamy on Cleanser - Instead of using a gel or liquid style cleanser try a creamy cleanser this winter. This is especially true if you start feeling like your face is tight, this means your skin is craving moisture and your favorite face wash just might be too harsh since the weather is already drying you out a bit.

(Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm, $102 NeimanMarcus.com)

Luxe: Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm is my new favorite cleansing treat. It's a black balm that thoroughly cleanses my skin without leaving it feeling dry or tight. It features Hungarian Thermal Mud which is said to provide deep cleansing thanks to the calcium and magnesium.

Mid Range: MD Forte Facial Cleanser I ($25.00 MDForte.com) is my go to cleanser. Not only is it dermatologist recommended, it is soap-free and oil-free but does have glycolic acid for a very gentle exfoliation. When I say very gentle, I mean very - I still have to supplement with a physical exfoliator once a week.

Pocket Friendly: Ponds Cold Cream ($8.49 Drugstore.com) is not your mama's cold cream! Pond's Cold Cream is a classic product that cleanses deep with out stripping or drying the skin. This is great for sensitive skin because it's hypo-allergenic and can ever remove stubborn makeup.

More tips after the jump!

2. Skip Toner all together! Toner is my friend, but during the winter we part ways. If we keep in contact my skin rebels, I get dry patches and it starts flaking mid-day... so not cute. So I put my toner under the bathroom sink and forget about it.

3. Beef up thin moisturizers. Your usual moisturizer just doesn't cut it during these freezing cold months. I step it up during the winter, but that doesn't mean totally dismissing my favorites, instead I use a heavy cream at night and a usual in the AM. Then, if I really feel like I need it, I'll go ahead and use the heavier cream in the AM too, but usually just the night treat works wonders.

(Creme de la Mer, $130-$1390 Cremedelamer.com)

Luxe: Creme de la Mer - Ever since I was turned onto this brand I haven't looked back. Sure it's a lot of money, but it's worth every penny. It cures everything from a flaky nose due to rough tissues to dry patches and even flat iron or curling iron burns and a little goes a really long way.

Mid Range: Korres Wild Rose ($32.50 KorresUSA.com) is an amazing cream moisturizer that I pick for day use all the time, because not only does it have SPF 6 it also helps with mild hyperpigmentation and moisturizers for a full 24 hours. The formula might be thinner that others but it packs a mean punch with rose oil and olive oil.

Pocket Friendly: Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Night Cream ($19.99 Drugstore.com) is super smooth and leaves skin soft and moisturized thoroughly. Perfect for the price.
